Born in Greenwich, south London, in 1954, Wright’s career at the BBC began when he started working as a clerk. His broadcasting career was launched in 1976 when Wright left the BBC to join Radio 210 in Reading.

When did Steve Wright last work?

Wright was last on air on Sunday, hosting a pre-recorded special Valentine’s Day edition of his Love Songs program. He passed away on Monday. Steve – who worked for the BBC for more than four decades and hosted his weekend mid-afternoon love song show from March 1996 up to his death – hosted a Valentine’s Day special.

He rounded off his show by playing hit songs including Islands In The Stream, Three Little Birds, and Unchained Melody.
