Umenyiora attended Auburn High School in Alabama, where he began to showcase his athletic talents, particularly in football. His exceptional skills on the field earned him a scholarship to play college football at Troy University.

During his college career at Troy, Umenyiora demonstrated his prowess as a defensive lineman, impressing scouts with his speed, agility, and ability to rush the passer. His standout performances garnered attention from NFL teams, leading to his selection by the New York Giants in the second round of the 2003 NFL Draft.

As a member of the New York Giants, Umenyiora quickly established himself as one of the league’s premier pass rushers. He played a pivotal role in the Giants’ defence, contributing to the team’s success in winning Super Bowl XLII in 2008 and Super Bowl XLVI in 2012.
Throughout his NFL career, Umenyiora earned numerous accolades, including two Pro Bowl selections and two All-Pro honors. He retired from professional football in 2015 after signing a one-day contract with the New York Giants to retire as a member of the team.
