While her music has touched the hearts of millions, the story of her upbringing and the influences that shaped her artistry are equally compelling.

Born Louise Gabrielle Bobb in London, Gabrielle hails from a rich cultural heritage, with roots tracing back to Dominica.

Raised alongside her three brothers, Gabrielle’s upbringing was overseen by her mother, Patricia. As a single parent, Patricia played a pivotal role in shaping Gabrielle’s love for music, particularly soul and reggae, which would later become defining elements of her signature sound.

Despite the challenges she faced, including coping with ptosis—a condition characterized by the drooping of one eyelid—since childhood, Gabrielle’s resilience and passion for music remained unwavering.

In public, she gracefully navigated her condition, often using sunglasses, an eyepatch, or stylish headwear to conceal it, embracing her unique appearance with confidence and poise.

Throughout her formative years, Gabrielle encountered personal struggles, battling depression and grappling with suicidal thoughts during her time in school. Despite these hardships, music became her solace, providing an outlet for self-expression and healing during her darkest moments.

Following the completion of her A-levels, Gabrielle embarked on a journey into the music industry, forsaking her initial plans to study law. Instead, she found her voice on the stage of nightclubs, where her talent and charisma quickly garnered attention.

As Gabrielle’s career blossomed, she drew upon her experiences and influences, infusing her music with raw emotion and authenticity. Her breakthrough single, “Dreams,” catapulted her to stardom in the early 1990s, captivating audiences with its soulful melodies and empowering lyrics.
