The film features interviews with notable figures including Debra Messing herself, along with Michael Rapaport, Noa Tishby, Scott Galloway, US Rep. Ritchie Torres, and US Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand.
“Primal Fear” delves into the aftermath of October 7th, a day marked by tragedy as Hamas killed over 1,200 Israelis and kidnapped hundreds, including innocent civilians of all ages. While the documentary begins with the harrowing events of the Nova Music Festival and the massacres across 22 Israeli communities, it primarily focuses on the broader implications of what has been deemed the modern Kristallnacht.

The film aims to unpack the phenomenon of antisemitism, tracing its evolution over the centuries. It delves into the alarming rise of antisemitism on American college campuses, which has prompted Congressional hearings and even the resignation of university presidents. Additionally, the documentary sheds light on the world’s silence and indifference towards the sexual violence inflicted by Hamas on Israeli women and girls, leading to calls for action such as hearings at the United Nations.
“Primal Fear” also examines the role of social media, particularly platforms like TikTok, in spreading misinformation and inciting hatred. It highlights concerning poll numbers indicating that a majority of young adults sympathize with Hamas, a designated terrorist organization funded by Iran.
Debra Messing expressed her deep personal connection to the project, stating, “October 7th shook me to my core, and the reaction of the world from the silence to the hostility has been stunning. I’m honored to be working on this important project at such an urgent moment.”
Wendy Sachs, the director of the film, praised Messing’s dedication to speaking out against antisemitism, stating, “When much of Hollywood stayed silent, Debra doubled down, using her platform to speak out against the hypocrisy, double standards, and shocking levels of antisemitism that have blown up in the aftermath of October 7th.”
“Primal Fear” serves as a poignant reminder of the urgent need to confront and address the resurgence of antisemitism, not only for the Jewish community but for the integrity of Western civilization as a whole.
