Aphex Twin parents: Meet Derek James & Lorna James

Aphex Twin’s parents are Derek James & Lorna James. Richard David James, known professionally as Aphex Twin was born on August 18, 1971, in Limerick, Ireland. Aphex Twin is 52 years old as of 2024.

Derek James, Aphex Twin’s father, had a diverse career. He worked as a tin and coal miner, demonstrating resilience and hard work. Later, Derek transitioned to become a psychiatric nurse and a counselor. His compassionate role in mental health care left an impact on his son.

Lorna James, Aphex Twin’s mother, shares Welsh heritage with her husband. Together, they raised Richard and his two older sisters in a happy home. Lorna’s influence on her son’s life is evident in the emotional depth of his music.

Aphex Twin began DJing at free parties and clubs in Cornwall and around the South West in the late 1980s. His first release was the 12″ EP Analogue Bubblebath, released on Mighty Force in September 1991.
