In 1992, rumours began to circulate that Elizabeth Gracen had engaged in an affair with then-Governor Bill Clinton. Initially, Gracen dismissed these claims, at the request of Clinton’s campaign manager, Mickey Kantor.

However, in the spring of 1998, Gracen recanted her denial and admitted to having a one-night stand with Clinton in 1983. This revelation sent shockwaves through the political world and reignited speculation surrounding Clinton’s personal life.

Consequences and Fallout: Following her admission, Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr, who was investigating Clinton in the Paula Jones lawsuit, issued a subpoena for Gracen to testify to her claim in court. However, Gracen managed to elude the subpoena, at one point even leaving the country to film “Highlander: The Raven” outside of the United States. Paula Jones’s legal team also struggled to track her down due to her unscheduled trips to Las Vegas and the Caribbean.

Gracen’s apology to Hillary Clinton publicly acknowledged the inappropriate nature of her actions and expressed remorse for the pain they may have caused. Despite her apology, the revelation of her affair with Clinton reignited public scrutiny and fueled ongoing debates about the conduct of public figures.
