When Maluma was asked to choose a name that would resonate with fans of the urban genre, he wanted something memorable and meaningful. He ingeniously combined the first syllables of his family members’ names:

“Ma” from his mother’s name, Marlli, “Lu” from his father’s name, Luis; and “Ma” from his sister’s name, Manuela. Hence, the moniker “Maluma” was born—a fusion of love and family bonds.
