The groundbreaking queer supergroup, consisting of singer-songwriters Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus, secured a triumphant victory at the pre-Grammy awards ceremony on Sunday afternoon. The trio, known collectively as Boygenius, clinched three prestigious Grammy awards, triumphing in categories such as Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance for their single “Not Strong Enough,” in addition to Best Alternative Album for their debut studio masterpiece, “The Record.”

Clad in matching white tuxedos, the trio made a spirited dash to the stage for their first award, delivering a poignant acceptance speech amidst the attempt to play them off with music. Lucy Dacus, holding her golden gramophone, expressed gratitude, reflecting on the trio’s childhood dreams. “We were all delusional enough as kids to think that this might happen to us someday,” she shared. Phoebe Bridgers’ past aspirations at Guitar Center and Julien Baker’s childhood dreams of playing sold-out stadiums were recalled with a sense of awe. Dacus playfully felt like a kid again, reminiscing about practicing acceptance speeches, thanking everyone from her bus driver to the church door holder.

As the orchestra signaled to wrap up, Julien Baker interjected, stating, “Music saved my life. Everyone can be in a band. This band is my family.” The trio shared an endearing embrace as they exited the stage, returning twice more to accept additional awards and express gratitude to their families.

These three Grammy victories serve as a crowning achievement for Boygenius in a remarkable year. The band’s accomplishments included the release of “The Record,” a notable appearance on Saturday Night Live with a memorable homage to Troye Sivan, and the creation of “boygenius – the film,” a series of music videos directed by Kristen Stewart. Despite the whirlwind success, the group announced a hiatus “for the foreseeable future.” Still, with their Grammy triumphs, fans remain hopeful that Boygenius will grace the music scene once again sooner rather than later.
