On February 1, 2024, Boygenius graced the stage with two acoustic sets at the Smell in downtown Los Angeles. However, the mood took a turn when they announced, “We’re going away for the foreseeable future.” Representatives of Boygenius subsequently confirmed to Pitchfork that the group is entering a hiatus.

Formed in 2018, Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, and Lucy Dacus introduced Boygenius to the music scene, presenting their self-titled debut EP that same year. Following a period of relative inactivity, each member embarked on solo endeavors, with Bridgers releasing “Punisher” in 2020, Baker unveiling “Little Oblivions” in February 2021, and Dacus sharing “Home Video” in June 2021.

The trio marked a triumphant return last year with their debut album, “The Record,” accompanied by the release of a companion EP, “The Rest.” The full-length garnered Grammy nominations for Album of the Year, Best Alternative Music Album, and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical, at the 2024 Grammy Awards. Additionally, their single “Not Strong Enough” received nods for Record of the Year and Best Rock Performance, while “Cool About It” is in the running for Best Alternative Music Performance. The eagerly awaited Grammy Awards are scheduled for Sunday, February 4, in Los Angeles.
