Persona 3 is a popular role-playing game that has two enhanced versions: Persona 3 FES and Persona 3 Portable (P3P). Both versions add new content and features to the original game, but they also have some differences that may affect your preference.

The main difference between FES and P3P is the way you control your party members. In FES, you can only directly control the protagonist, while the other members are controlled by the AI. You can give them general commands, such as “heal/support” or “full assault”, but you cannot choose their specific actions.

This can be frustrating when the AI makes poor decisions or does not follow your strategy. In P3P, you can switch to “direct commands” mode and control every party member individually, just like in Persona 4 and 5. This gives you more freedom and flexibility in combat, and allows you to execute more complex tactics.

Another difference is the presentation of the game. FES has fully animated cutscenes and 3D models for the characters and environments. P3P has a more simplified style, with static images and visual novel-like dialogue scenes. Some people may prefer the more immersive and cinematic experience of FES, but I think P3P has its own charm and advantages.
For one thing, P3P has faster loading times and smoother transitions between scenes. For another, P3P has more dialogue options and choices that affect your social links and story outcomes. For example, you can choose to play as a female protagonist in P3P, which changes the perspective and dynamics of the game.
The last difference I want to mention is the extra content that each version offers. FES has an epilogue chapter called “The Answer”, which continues the story after the main game’s ending. It is a challenging dungeon-crawling mode that reveals more about the characters and the lore of Persona 3.
P3P does not have “The Answer”, but it has other additions that FES does not have. For instance, P3P has new social links, new personas, new costumes, new music tracks, and new difficulty settings. It also has some gameplay improvements, such as being able to change your persona’s skills and being able to fast travel to different locations.
