With a partnership that spanned over two decades, they not only became the longest-standing ice dance team in Canadian history but also achieved unparalleled success and garnered admiration worldwide.
The remarkable journey of Virtue and Moir began in 1997 when they were paired together at the ages of seven and nine, respectively. Little did anyone know that this partnership would evolve into one of the most celebrated stories in the realm of ice dance.
Their early accomplishments set the stage for a series of historic achievements. Virtue and Moir secured the title of Canadian junior champions in 2004, marking the beginning of their ascent to the top of their field.
By 2007, they had become Canada’s premier ice dance team, a position they maintained for years to come.
The duo’s prowess on the ice reached new heights in 2010 when they etched their names in history as the first North American ice dancers to clinch an Olympic gold medal.
This victory not only ended a 34-year European streak but also marked them as the youngest ice dance team to achieve Olympic gold and the first to do so on home ice.

Beyond their incredible athletic achievements, Virtue and Moir became known for their passionate performances and undeniable chemistry, captivating audiences both on and off the ice. Time magazine, in 2018, acknowledged their growing popularity among new and returning spectators.
In a heartfelt announcement on September 17, 2019, Virtue and Moir revealed that they were “stepping away” from the sport, concluding an extraordinary 22-year journey as ice dancing partners.
