Slim Keith First Husband: Meet Howard Hawks

Nancy “Slim” Keith, Lady Keith of Castleacre, the iconic American socialite and fashion figure of the 1950s and 1960s, was married to the renowned film director Howard Hawks from 1941 to 1949.

Their relationship, marked by both admiration and challenges, played a significant role in the socialite’s life. In 1938, Slim Keith crossed paths with Howard Hawks, a noted film director, who was instantly captivated by her charm.

At that time, Hawks was already married to Athole Shearer, the sister of actress Norma Shearer. Undeterred by his existing marital status, Hawks pursued Slim relentlessly, expressing his desire to marry her.

Following Hawks’ divorce from Athole, Slim and Howard Hawks were married three years later. Their union, however, faced challenges as Hawks struggled with fidelity.

Not long after the birth of their daughter, Kitty Hawks, Slim chose to relocate to Havana and sought refuge with the renowned writer Ernest Hemingway.

Howard Hawks passed away on December 26, 1977, at the age of 81. His death resulted from complications arising from a fall when he tripped over his dog at his home in Palm Springs, California.
