Yes, Neuralink has an app that allows users to control their implant and external devices with their thoughts. According to the company’s website, the app decodes the neural signals from the implant and translates them into actions and intents.

For example, a user can type on a virtual keyboard, move a mouse cursor, or play a video game by simply thinking about it. The app also lets users customize their settings, monitor their implant status, and access support.

Neuralink’s implant, called the N1, is placed in a part of the brain that plans movements, called the motor cortex. The implant consists of 1024 electrodes distributed across 64 threads that record neural activity.

The threads are so fine that they can only be inserted by a surgical robot that avoids blood vessels and minimizes damage to the brain tissue. The implant is fully implantable, wireless, and cosmetically invisible.

Neuralink is currently conducting a clinical trial to evaluate the safety and functionality of its implant for people with quadriplegia due to spinal cord injury or ALS. The trial aims to restore computer control and other capabilities to these individuals.
