Neuralink is a company that aims to create a generalized brain-computer interface (BCI) that can restore autonomy and unlock human potential. It was founded in 2016 by Elon Musk and a team of seven scientists and engineers.

A BCI is a device that can read and write information from and to the brain. Neuralink’s BCI is fully implantable, cosmetically invisible, and designed to let you control a computer or mobile device anywhere you go.

The implant consists of very thin threads that are inserted into the brain by a surgical robot. The threads can record electrical signals from the neurons and stimulate them with electrical pulses.

Elon Musk has said that he created Neuralink to address two main goals: to help people with unmet medical needs, such as paralysis, blindness, deafness, or neurological disorders; and to enhance human capabilities, such as memory, communication, or creativity.
Elon has also said that he wants to enable humans to keep up with artificial intelligence, which he considers an existential threat to humanity. Neuralink has received approval from the US Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) to conduct its first tests on humans in 2023.
The company hopes to demonstrate that its BCI can help people with spinal cord injuries regain movement and sensation. In the future, Neuralink plans to expand its applications to other medical conditions and eventually to healthy individuals who want to augment their abilities.
