If you are a fan of the classic book or movie adaptations of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, you might be wondering if you can still get your hands on a Wonka Bar, the fictional chocolate bar that grants access to Willy Wonka’s magical candy factory. The answer is not so simple, as the history of Wonka chocolate is full of twists and turns.

The first attempt to produce Wonka Bars was made by the Quaker Oats Company, which sponsored the 1971 film Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. However, the bars were recalled due to technical problems and never made it to the market. The only real Wonka Bars from that era are rare collector’s items today.

The second attempt was made by Nestlé, which acquired the rights to use the Wonka brand in 1988. Nestlé launched several candy products under the Wonka name, such as Nerds, Runts, SweeTarts, Laffy Taffy, and Gobstoppers. Some of these candies were inspired by the inventions of Willy Wonka in the book and movies.

Nestlé also produced Wonka Bars in various flavors, such as milk chocolate, caramel, graham cracker, and cookies and cream. However, these bars were discontinued in 2010 in the US and 2016 in the UK. The third attempt is yet to come, as Ferrero, which bought Nestlé’s US candy business in 2018, announced plans to revive the Wonka brand in 2020.
Ferrero plans to launch new products under the Wonka name in 2022, coinciding with the release of a new movie about Willy Wonka’s origins, starring Timothée Chalamet. Ferrero has not revealed if these products will include Wonka Bars or other chocolate items.
So, does Wonka chocolate still exist? The answer is no, at least for now. But there is hope that it will return soon, as Ferrero seems determined to bring back the magic of Willy Wonka’s world.
