In 1977, Al Jarreau married Susan Elaine Player, marking the beginning of a beautiful chapter in his personal life. The couple welcomed their son, Ryan Jarreau, into the world, forming a close-knit family that would share in the joys and challenges of life together.

Susan Player Jarreau, Al’s second wife, played an integral role in his artistic endeavors. She not only contributed background vocals alongside their son, Ryan, on the album “Tomorrow Today” but also showcased her talent behind the camera.

Susan provided photography for several of Al Jarreau’s albums, including “Glow,” “All Fly Home,” “This Time,” and “Breakin’ Away.” The song “Susan’s Song,” featured on the album “We Got By,” stands as a heartfelt tribute to the woman who played a significant role in Al’s life.

Beyond her contributions to Al Jarreau’s musical journey, Susan Player Jarreau pursued a career in acting and modeling. Her presence in films like “Malibu Beach,” “The Pom Pom Girls,” “Las adolescentes,” “High School Girl,” and “Invasion of the Bee Girls” added another dimension to the Jarreau family’s connection to the world of entertainment.

Tragically, Al Jarreau’s vibrant life came to an end on February 12, 2017, when he succumbed to respiratory failure at the age of 76. Just two days before announcing his retirement and a month before his 77th birthday, the world lost a musical trailblazer.

During his final moments, Al Jarreau was surrounded by the love and support of his wife, Susan Player Jarreau, and their son, Ryan. His impact on the music industry, marked by hits like “Roof Garden,” “We’re in This Love Together,” and “Mornin’,” remains timeless.
