Montreal Canadiens’ alternate captain, Brendan Gallagher, has recently faced disciplinary action from the National Hockey League (NHL).

The NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced that Gallagher has been suspended for five games without pay as a consequence of an illegal check to the head of New York Islanders defenseman Adam Pelech during NHL Game No. 748 in Montreal on January 25.
The incident in question took place at 11:50 of the third period, leading to Gallagher receiving a match penalty. The decision to suspend Gallagher reflects the league’s commitment to player safety and maintaining the integrity of the game.

In accordance with the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and considering his average annual salary, Gallagher will forfeit $169,270.85 as a result of the suspension. The funds will be directed to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
