The NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced that Gallagher has been suspended for five games without pay as a consequence of an illegal check to the head of New York Islanders defenseman Adam Pelech during NHL Game No. 748 in Montreal on January 25.

The incident in question took place at 11:50 of the third period, leading to Gallagher receiving a match penalty. The decision to suspend Gallagher reflects the league’s commitment to player safety and maintaining the integrity of the game.

In accordance with the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and considering his average annual salary, Gallagher will forfeit $169,270.85 as a result of the suspension. The funds will be directed to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

This suspension underscores the NHL’s ongoing efforts to address and deter actions that put player safety at risk, emphasizing the importance of fair play and responsible conduct on the ice. The Montreal Canadiens and Brendan Gallagher will navigate this disciplinary period, and fans will be anticipating his return to the ice once the suspension concludes.
