At the age of 69, she fell victim to a ruthless assassination executed in a manner reminiscent of the criminal methods she was known for during her reign in the drug trade.
On that fateful day, Blanco, accompanied by her pregnant daughter-in-law, visited the Cardiso butcher shop on the corner of 29th Street in Medellín.
As she exited the establishment, an assassin on a motorcycle ambushed her. The ruthless assailant fired two fatal shots, bringing an abrupt and deadly conclusion to Griselda Blanco’s tumultuous life.

The method of the killing, a drive-by motorcycle shooting, echoed the same assassination style that Blanco had been credited with introducing to the Miami underworld during her notorious drug empire.

The assassination highlighted the dangerous and unforgiving nature of the criminal world she once ruled.
Law enforcement personnel, as reported by The Miami Herald, expressed surprise that Griselda Blanco had not met her demise sooner given the numerous enemies she had accumulated throughout her criminal career.
Nelson Andreu, a former Miami homicide detective, commented on the inevitability of retribution, stating, “When you kill so many and hurt so many people like she did, it’s only a matter of time before they find you and try to even the score.” Blanco’s death marked the end of an era, concluding a life defined by violence, power, and notoriety.
