Joseph C. Lewis, a British businessman, investor, and philanthropist, has long been associated with the ownership of Tottenham Hotspur soccer club.

The majority ownership of Tottenham Hotspur is held by the Lewis Family Trust, a significant entity within Lewis’s financial holdings. The trust’s ownership stake in Spurs stands at an impressive 86.58%, exerting substantial influence over the club’s affairs.
Notably, the investment company Enic holds 70.12% ownership, with the Lewis Family Trust being a significant shareholder.
Joseph C. Lewis, with an estimated net worth of £5 billion, assumed control of Tottenham Hotspur in 2001 when he acquired a controlling stake from Alan Sugar.

Despite his notable ownership, Lewis tends to maintain a low profile and is seldom seen attending matches or publicly discussing the team. He has become synonymous with the club, representing the influential figure in the background.

However, a significant development occurred on October 5, 2022, when Joseph C. Lewis ceased to be a part of the Lewis Family Trust. Although the trust retained his name, Lewis was no longer actively involved or a beneficiary.
Instead, two trustees, Bryan Antoine Glinton and Katie Louise Booth, both Bahamas-based lawyers with no background in football, were appointed to oversee the trust on behalf of the Lewis family.
Throughout his ownership tenure, Lewis has entrusted the day-to-day operations of the club to Chairman Daniel Levy, rarely intervening in decision-making processes. Despite his reduced visibility in recent years, Lewis remains a key figure in Tottenham Hotspur’s ownership history, and his legacy within the football club endures.
