The Ram Mandir is a Hindu temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, India. It is located at the site believed to be the birthplace of Lord Rama, the hero of Ramayana regarded as an incarnation of God Vishnu by the Hindus.

Why is Ram Mandir important in India?
First, the theological reason. Ayodhya is the original home of Ram. Its spot on the Sarayu River was where his just rule began. Diwali, India’s biggest holiday, marks the end of his 14-year ordeal of separation from the place.

The temple will be the sacred abode of one of the Hindu pantheon’s most popular gods Ram, who Hindus believe was born at the exact site in Ayodhya.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a gigantic new temple in the Indian city of Ayodhya on Monday, concluding a long campaign in which Hindu nationalists tore down a centuries-old mosque and replaced it with a structure devoted to the Hindu deity Ram.
