Owen Rogerson is 14 years younger than Roger and followed his brother into the police service in 1971 when his older sibling had already been an officer for 11 years. But within a decade, following the shooting of the heroin dealer Warren Lanfranchi in a lane in Chippendale in June 1981, Roger had become a controversial figure, and the younger brother says it seriously affected his career.

Owen Rogerson left the police in 2001, then aged 46. Soon after, he began legal action over the way he was treated, claiming the police service failed in its duty of care.

He is reluctant to reveal details of his claim before the court hearing in August but says several high-profile, former and serving incorruptible officers will give evidence.
