Daniel Eric Markel, the accomplished Canadian-born attorney and law professor, met a tragic end as he was brutally murdered in Tallahassee, Florida, in 2014.

His death was a result of a chilling murder-for-hire plot, driven by the contentious child custody issues that emerged following Markel’s divorce from Wendi Adelson. Wendi, also a clinical law professor and child advocate at Florida State University during that time, was entangled in a custody battle with Markel over their two sons.
The murder-for-hire scheme implicated Wendi Adelson, her brother Charlie Adelson, and their mother Donna Adelson as “conspirators” in the plot. Despite the grave nature of the accusations, Wendi Adelson has not faced charges in connection with Markel’s murder.

Donna Adelson, Markel’s former mother-in-law, faced arrest at the Miami International Airport while allegedly attempting to flee to Vietnam, a country without an extradition treaty with the U.S. She is charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and solicitation of murder.
