Born in 1964 to a musical household, Dave Rowntree discovered his rhythm early on, immersing himself in percussion through the Colchester Silver Band.
It was with the formation of Blur in 1988 that his drumming truly found its beat. As the drummer and occasional backing vocalist, Rowntree contributed pulsating beats to hits like “Song 2” and “Parklife.”
His talents stretched beyond drumsticks and skins; Rowntree showcased his songwriting prowess by penning several Blur tracks. However, Blur wasn’t the final chord in his symphony of creativity.

Rowntree ventured into acting, gracing screens in films like “War of the Worlds” and TV series such as “The Capture.” Politics, too, beckoned him, leading him to serve as a Labour Party councillor from 2017 to 2021.
The musical journey persisted beyond Blur as Rowntree embarked on a solo career in 1998, experimenting with electronic and ambient sounds. His 2005 album, “Transmissions,” earned him the NME award for Best Solo Artist, underlining his solo success.
Rowntree’s artistic spirit transcends the confines of rock and solo ventures. His foray into composing is evident in his scoring for the Channel 4 series “The End of the F***ing World,” showcasing a versatility that goes beyond the drumming realm.
