However, behind the political prowess and public service lies a remarkable journey that began on September 17, 1933, in the modest town of New Hartford, Iowa.

Charles Grassley’s roots trace back to his parents, Ruth and Louis Arthur Grassley, whose influence played a pivotal role in shaping the trajectory of his life.

Louis Arthur Grassley and Ruth Corwin welcomed their son into a world defined by the simplicity of rural life. Raised on a farm, young Charles experienced a childhood devoid of modern amenities, growing up in a home without electricity or indoor plumbing.

The Grassley family’s homestead, nestled in the heart of rural Iowa, became a crucible for the values that would define Charles Grassley’s character. The daily rigors of farm life instilled in him a work ethic that would later become a hallmark of his political career.
