ABTC has officially confirmed that David O. Russell will take the directorial helm for the upcoming Linda Ronstadt biopic, featuring Selena Gomez in a starring role. The much-anticipated music biopic is currently in pre-production, spearheaded by producers James Keach, renowned for his work on the 2019 documentary “Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice,” and Ronstadt’s manager, John Boylan.

Selena Gomez subtly teased her involvement in the biopic earlier in the week by sharing an Instagram story featuring Ronstadt’s 2013 memoir, “Simple Dreams.” While Gomez’s role has been confirmed, no other casting details have been disclosed at this time.

Linda Ronstadt, a celebrated figure in country, rock ‘n’ roll, and Latin music, is best known for her iconic 1970s albums, including “Heart Like a Wheel” and “Simple Dreams.” Over her illustrious career, she released an impressive 29 studio albums, secured 11 Grammy Awards, and earned prestigious Lifetime Achievement Awards from both the Recording Academy and the Latin Recording Academy. In 2014, Ronstadt received the esteemed honor of induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

David O. Russell, an Oscar-nominated director and writer renowned for his critically acclaimed films such as “Three Kings” (1999), “The Fighter” (2010), “Silver Linings Playbook” (2012), and “American Hustle” (2013), is set to bring his cinematic expertise to Ronstadt’s biographical narrative. Russell’s latest project, the 2022 mystery comedy “Amsterdam,” boasted a star-studded cast including Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, and John David Washington. In addition to the Linda Ronstadt biopic, Russell is concurrently working on “Super Toys,” featuring Keke Palmer and Sacha Baron Cohen in starring roles.
