The Quaker Oats Company has announced the recall of over 90 products, mainly granola bars and granola cereals, that have the potential to be contaminated with salmonella, a type of bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

The recall affects certain varieties of Quaker cereals, such as Oatmeal Squares, Chewy granola bars, Cap’n Crunch products, and more. The products were sold throughout the 50 United States, Puerto Rico, Guam, and Saipan.

You can find the full list of recalled products, along with their UPCs, expiration dates and photos, on the Quaker website. The recall was initiated after Quaker discovered that some of the ingredients used in the affected products may have been contaminated with salmonella during the manufacturing process.

Salmonella is a bacteria that can cause diarrhea, fever, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting and headache. Most people can recover from a salmonella infection without specific medical treatment within four to seven days, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

However, salmonella infection can be more severe for certain groups, such as infants and children under 5 years old, people 65 and over, people with weakened immune systems, and people taking certain medications. In rare cases, salmonella infections can involve infection of the urine, blood, bones, joints, or nervous system.
