On June 27, 2017, while in the audience, Hayes was featured in an impromptu interview on a web special for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon; in his prime, he was a guest on the Johnny Carson-hosted version.
Hayes graduated from DePauw University with music and English majors and joined Lambda Chi Alpha.
