American actor and recorder William Foster Hayes III was born. Spring 1955 saw his song “The Ballad of Davy Crockett” reach the top of the Billboard charts.

As a guest on the Johnny Carson-hosted edition of the show during his prime, Hayes was included in an impromptu interview on a web special for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on June 27, 2017, while he was in the audience.
After completing her studies in English and music at DePauw University, Hayes joined Lambda Chi Alpha.
Hayes got a master’s degree in music from Northwestern University and a Ph.D. in education from West Virginia University. At the age of 98, Hayes passed away on January 12, 2024.
