Joaquin Phoenix never officially retired from acting, but he did take a break from the industry for a few years. In 2008, he announced his retirement from acting and pursued a career in hip-hop.

However, he later revealed that it was all a hoax and that he was working on a mockumentary with Casey Affleck. In 2010, Phoenix returned to acting with the film “I’m Still Here”, which was directed by Affleck.

Since then, he has appeared in several critically acclaimed films, including “The Master”, “Her”, and “Joker”. In 2020, The New York Times named Joaquin Phoenix one of the greatest actors of the 21st century.

Joaquin Phoenix has appeared in the romantic drama Her (2013) and the crime satire Inherent Vice (2014). Phoenix made his acting debut alongside his brother in the television series Seven Brides for Seven Brothers in the 1982 episode “Christmas Song”.

Joaquin Phoenix starred in the psychological drama The Master (2012), winning the Volpi Cup for Best Actor and earning his third Academy Award nomination.
