Joaquin Phoenix lost 52 pounds for his role in the movie “Joker”. The weight loss was an integral part of his preparation for the role, as he wanted to portray the character’s physical and mental decline.

The transformation took a toll on him, and he revealed that he developed a disorder and became obsessed with his new weight. Phoenix received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Commodus in the historical drama Gladiator (2000).
