Major Mike Sadler, the last surviving member of the original Special Air Service (SAS) passed away in January 2024, at a good old age of 103.

Known as the “rogue heroes” for their daring World War II tactics, Sadler’s life was a tapestry of adventure.

Born in 1920, he left school to farm in Rhodesia before joining the SAS in North Africa. His navigational prowess in the Long Range Desert Group led to daring raids behind enemy lines.

Parachuting into France on D-Day, Sadler earned the Military Cross for leading operations against German reinforcements.

After the war, he trained recruits and contributed to Antarctic exploration, earning a namesake piece of the continent. Transitioning to MI6, he applied his skills in covert operations.

Beyond his military career, Sadler remained active, advocating for veterans’ rights and sharing wartime experiences. His legacy embodies courage and resourcefulness, leaving an indelible mark on history.
