Cedric’s career in entertainment began with a unique twist of fate. Not satisfied with his birth name, Cedric initially considered the stage name “Cheerio.” However, a cease and desist letter from General Mills led him to adopt the name “Cedric the Entertainer” after a chance introduction by someone who referred to him as such.

In 1995, Cedric took a bold step into acting, landing his first role as The Cowardly Lion in the Apollo Theater Revival of The Wiz. His acting career gained momentum when he portrayed Cedric Jackie Robinson on The Steve Harvey Show. He transitioned to the big screen with roles in Barbershop, Barbershop 2: Back in Business, Ride, and other films.
Cedric continued to balance his acting career with stand-up comedy. Alongside Steve Harvey, D. L. Hughley, and Bernie Mac, he became one of the Kings of Comedy, a legendary comedy tour later adapted into the film “The Original Kings of Comedy,” directed by Spike Lee.
