Camila Batmanghelidjh Parents: Meet Fereydoon Batmanghelidj, Lucille Batmanghelidjh

Camila Batmanghelidjh CBE, the Iranian-Belgian author, psychotherapist, and revered charity executive based in the United Kingdom, led a life marked by resilience and determination.

Born in 1963 in Tehran, Iran, Camila was the third of four children born to Fereydoon Batmanghelidj, a doctor, and Lucile Batmanghelidjh, a Belgian national.

The story of Camila’s parents, Fereydoon and Lucile, adds an international flair to her upbringing. The couple met and married in London while her father pursued studies at St Mary’s Hospital.

After tying the knot, they returned to Tehran, where Camila would be born, connecting her roots to both Iran and Belgium. Camila’s entry into the world was marked by challenges. Born two-and-a-half months premature, she defied the odds, with her survival not initially expected.

Her premature birth left a lasting impact on her health, contributing to the development of learning disabilities, including dyslexia, and an endocrine disorder affecting her weight.

In a unique twist, Camila’s birth was not registered, and the exact date went unrecorded. Her remarkable survival and subsequent journey through life became a testament to her strength and resilience.

Despite the challenges, she carved a path for herself as an influential figure in the United Kingdom, leaving an indelible mark on the fields of psychotherapy, literature, and charitable work.

Camila’s father, Fereydoon Batmanghelidj, is remembered for his unorthodox belief in the healing power of increased water consumption, a perspective considered controversial and labeled as quackery by medical experts.

His work and ideas garnered attention, but he faced skepticism from the medical community. Tragically, Fereydoon Batmanghelidj’s life came to an end on November 15, 2004, due to complications related to pneumonia.

His passing marked the conclusion of a chapter in the Batmanghelidjh family’s legacy, but Camila continued to carry the torch, using her experiences and challenges to fuel her passion for helping others through her charitable endeavors until her own passing in January 2024.
