Living in exile in Lebanon after spending 15 years in an Israeli jail, al-Arouri, 57, faced numerous challenges, including threats from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who had openly stated his intention to target him.

Al-Arouri, in the weeks leading up to his death, assumed the role of spokesperson for Hamas, emphasizing the group’s position on exchange deals for captives only after the conclusion of the Israel–Hamas war in Gaza.

The United States designated al-Arouri as a “global terrorist” in 2015, attaching a $5 million reward to any information about him. His life was abruptly ended during the Israel–Hamas war by an Israeli airstrike in Lebanon in January 2024.

As questions linger about Saleh al-Arouri’s personal life, the mystery extends to whether he had children. The absence of information on this aspect of his life adds another layer of complexity to the enigma surrounding the senior Hamas leader.
