One such player is Konstantinos “Kostas” Tsimikas, the Greek left-back who has become a key figure for both Premier League giants Liverpool and the Greece national team.

Early Career:

Born on May 12, 1996, in Thessaloniki, Greece, Tsimikas began his football journey in the local team of his village, Lefkonas, Serres. His talent didn’t go unnoticed, and at the age of 14, he made a move to AS Neapoli Thessaloniki. Subsequently, in 2013, Tsimikas joined Panserraikos, where he showcased his skills and netted five goals during the 2013–14 season in Gamma Ethniki.

Olympiacos and Loan Spells:

Tsimikas debuted for Olympiacos in the Super League on December 19, 2015. However, his footballing adventure extended beyond Greece, with notable loan spells at Danish club Esbjerg and Dutch side Willem II. While at Willem II, Tsimikas’s standout performances, including a spectacular bicycle kick, earned him recognition as the Eredivisie Rookie of the Month for March 2018.

Return to Olympiacos:

Despite his successful stints abroad, Tsimikas returned to Olympiacos for the 2018–19 season. His contributions, including assists in the Europa League, led to a contract extension until the summer of 2023.

Liverpool Triumph:

Tsimikas’s journey took a decisive turn on August 11, 2020, when he signed for Liverpool. Becoming the second Greek footballer to join the club after Sotirios Kyrgiakos, Tsimikas quickly asserted his presence. His notable moments include a memorable FA Cup final appearance in May 2022, where he came off the bench and scored the deciding penalty in the shoot-out against Chelsea.

Contract Extension:

On September 25, 2023, Liverpool fans received fantastic news as Tsimikas committed his future to the club by signing a new long-term deal, reportedly keeping him at Anfield until 2027.

International Recognition:

Tsimikas’s prowess is not limited to the club level; he received his first call-up to the Greece senior team in October 2018. His international debut against Hungary showcased his ability to impact games with crucial contributions.
