Late Ruth Seymour, the accomplished former General Manager of KCRW, had two children, Celia and David, though tragically David passed away at an early age.

David, born to Ruth and her first husband Jack Hirschman, was known for his activism, particularly in the anti-war movement.
Following in his mother’s footsteps, he briefly ventured into the realm of radio. Unfortunately, David’s life was cut short by lymphoma, and he passed away in 1982 at the tender age of 25.

Following her divorce from Jack Hirschman, she did not remarry, and her family circle remained defined by the cherished memories of her son, David.
Thus, while Ruth Seymour’s journey once included the joy of raising children, only the memory of her son David endures as a testament to the complex tapestry of her personal life.
A fervent advocate for Los Angeles, Seymour used KCRW to amplify the city’s cultural scene.
NPR president John Lansing calls Seymour “a giant in the world of public radio,” and KCRW president Jennifer Ferro hailed her as “singular in every way.”
