Born on 12 June 1957, Miandad’s story is interwoven with the experiences of his parents, Miandad Noor Mohammad and Khatoon Bibi, who migrated from Palanpur, Gujarat, India, to embark on a new chapter of life in Pakistan.

Miandad Noor Mohammad, Javed Miandad’s father, played a multifaceted role in India before the family’s relocation. Working in the police department, he held posts in cities like Ahmedabad and Baroda.

Simultaneously, he dedicated himself to overseeing sports clubs in the city, a responsibility entrusted to him by the Nawab. This dual commitment reflected not only a dedication to law enforcement but also a passion for nurturing sports within the community.

The family’s move from Gujarat to Karachi marked a pivotal moment in the life of young Javed Miandad. Karachi, a vibrant metropolis, became the backdrop for his formative years and the launchpad for a cricketing journey that would captivate the world. The cultural richness and diversity of Karachi played a role in shaping Miandad’s identity as an ethnic Muhajir.

Javed Miandad’s familial environment was one of seven siblings, including three brothers who would also leave their mark on Pakistani cricket: Anwar Miandad, Sohail Miandad, and Bashir Miandad. The cricketing prowess of the Miandad family extended further with Miandad’s nephew, Faisal Iqbal, who made a mark as a Test cricketer.

The legacy of Javed Miandad, both as a player and a cricketing personality, reflects the resilience and determination inherited from his parents and the broader family network. Their journey from Gujarat to Karachi, marked by professional commitment and a passion for sports, laid the foundation for a cricketing icon whose impact would transcend generations.
