At the heart of his narrative are the foundational figures of his life—his parents, Janet and Seamus Sr. The love story of Janet and Seamus Sr. began 54 years ago on a day synonymous with love—Valentine’s Day.

This union set the stage for a family that would leave a lasting impact on the Canadian political landscape. Seamus Sr., not to be confused with his son, rose to prominence as a judge of the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador, contributing to the legal fabric of the region.

The O’Regan household was one marked by a harmonious partnership between a dedicated nurse, Janet, and a distinguished judge, Seamus Sr. Despite the demands of their respective careers, they successfully navigated the delicate balance of a two-career household, exemplifying teamwork and commitment to their family.

Reflecting on his upbringing, Seamus O’Regan fondly recalls the collaborative efforts of his parents. “It was a two-career household, and they just kind of made it work. Dad made our lunches. Mom sometimes would have already left by the time we got up, so Dad took us to school. They just made it work the best they could,” he shares.

Growing up in a household where both parents actively participated in the daily challenges of family life, Seamus learned valuable lessons about the importance of cooperation and shared responsibilities. The O’Regans exemplified a commitment to making it work, showcasing resilience and dedication in the face of a demanding professional landscape.

Tragically, Seamus O’Regan Sr. passed away in November 2020, leaving behind a legacy of legal expertise and a testament to the enduring power of partnership.
