Dawood Ibrahim was born on 26 December 1955 into a Konkani Muslim family. His father, Ibrahim Kaskar, played a crucial role as a head constable with the Mumbai Police, dedicating his life to maintaining law and order. Amina Bi, Dawood’s mother, served as the nurturing force in the household, fulfilling the responsibilities of a homemaker.
Raised in the Zadgaon area of Dongri, Dawood attended Ahmed Sailor High School. However, he chose to drop out, embarking on a path that would lead him into a life of crime. In his early years, Dawood engaged in fraud, theft, and robbery, setting the stage for a turbulent journey ahead.

The turning point came when Dawood joined the gang of local mobster Baashu Dada, becoming part of the organized crime syndicate in Mumbai. Later, he branched out, forming his own gang alongside his elder brother, Shabir Ibrahim Kaskar. Tragedy struck when Shabir fell victim to the rival Pathan gang, leaving Dawood as the sole leader of what would become the notorious D-Company.
Dawood’s criminal pursuits expanded into gold smuggling, real estate, extortion, and drug trafficking. Fleeing India in 1986 after being implicated in the murder of Samad Khan, he sought refuge in Dubai.
Over the following years, Dawood, with the assistance of his second-in-command Chhota Rajan, transformed his gang into a formidable force, boasting over 5000 members and generating substantial revenue by the early 1990s.
The Indian government implicated Dawood Ibrahim as one of the masterminds behind the 1993 Mumbai Attacks. Escaping Dubai, he found sanctuary in Karachi, where he is believed to reside to this day.
