In the wake of an emotionally charged game for the St. Louis Blues, Jordan Kyrou found himself in the spotlight not just for his performance on the ice but for the comments he made about former coach Craig Berube.

During a postgame interview, Kyrou addressed the boos and offered a heartfelt apology. “I definitely heard those,” he admitted. “That’s not easy, obviously, but I see where they’re coming from. It’s definitely tough. I love playing here. I love playing for these fans.”
The game against the Ottawa Senators marked the Blues’ first since the firing of Craig Berube, who had coached the team for six seasons and led them to a Stanley Cup championship in 2019. When asked about his relationship with Berube, Kyrou’s initial response was concise: “I’ve got no comment. He’s not my coach anymore.”
However, Kyrou spoke highly of interim coach Drew Bannister, describing the coaching change as a “fresh start” for the team and an opportunity to “get our culture back a little bit.” He clarified his stance on Berube, acknowledging the impact the former coach had on his development as an NHL player.
“I obviously respect Chief,” Kyrou stated. “He’s been my coach the whole time I’ve been here. I respect everything he’s done. He won a Cup, you know? I’m just trying to focus on my future and focus on what I can do to help my team win. That’s all I really meant.”

Kyrou’s comments about Berube had gone viral before the game, and he expressed regret if they were misconstrued. “Sorry if it sounded in a bad way at all,” he said. “I’m just really trying to focus on the future here and focus on what I can do to help get the wins for the boys.”
The postgame questions shifted to the fans’ reaction, leading to a visibly emotional Kyrou. “It’s the toughest game I’ve played, to be honest,” he admitted. “I love playing here. It’s tough to hear the fans booing me here.”
Despite the challenging atmosphere, Kyrou contributed to the Blues’ 4-2 win over the Senators with an assist and a plus-3 rating. His performance this season has been under scrutiny, with just 5 goals in 29 games after an impressive 37 goals in 79 games the previous season.
