George Gervin, sometimes known as “the Iceman,” is a former professional basketball player from the United States who spent time with the Chicago Bulls, San Antonio Spurs, and Virginia Squires in both the National Basketball Association and the American Basketball Association.

When Gervin was first playing for the Pontiac Chaparrals of the Continental Basketball Association in 1972–1973, Johnny Kerr, the Vice President of Basketball Operations for the Virginia Squires of the ABA, saw him play. Kerr signed Gervin to a $40,000-a-year contract with the Squires in January 1973.

George Gervin has designed groups for impoverished youngsters and has been involved in the San Antonio community ever since he retired from professional basketball. The George Gervin Youth Center was founded by him in 1991.

His career scoring average of 26.2 points per game is among the game’s best as is his combined NBA/ABA total of 26,595 points.

During his career, Gervin recorded a remarkable streak of scoring double figures in 407 consecutive games.
