Derek Stirling: Former New Zealand fast bowler Dies Aged 62

Derek Alexander Stirling was a New Zealand cricketer who played in six Test matches and six One Day Internationals from 1984 to 1986.

A right-arm fast-medium bowler, Stirling made his first-class debut for Central Districts in 1981/82 and his international debut for New Zealand in a One Day International against Sri Lanka on 31 March 1984. His Test debut followed, against Pakistan on 16 November 1984.

Stirling died at the age of 62 after a short illness. He and his American wife Debbie had three children: Daniel, Michael, and Annie.

Stirling moved the family to Oregon for four years in 1998, where they worked for Debbie’s mother’s new temporary staffing company before buying it out.

The former Black Cap fast bowler Derek Stirling has died after a short illness. He was 62. Stirling played six tests for New Zealand in the 1980’s and first-class cricket for Central Districts and Wellington.

He made his first-class debut for Central Districts as a 19-year-old, taking 6-75 against Northern Districts.
