Dallas County, Texas’s district attorney from 2007 to 2015 was Craig Marcus Watkins, an American attorney. After winning the 2006 election, he became Texas’s first elected African-American district attorney.

Following his time in the Dallas County Public Defender’s and City Attorney’s offices, Watkins entered the private legal sector.
Watkins belonged to two legal associations: the Dallas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and the Texas Trial Lawyers Association.
There were three kids born to Watkins and Tanya. On December 12, 2023, at the age of 56, he passed away at his Dallas residence.

Watkins and his wife, Tanya, had three children. The Watkinses have three children, Chad, 11, Cale, 8, and Taryn, the only girl, who at age 3 is called The Contessa because “she rules the house,” Tanya says when Watkins stops by after lunch.
His tight-knit family stands solidly behind him, he says, which softens the sting of not fitting in with some of his comrades.
