Born to diplomat Carl Taylor and Pauline Young in Washington, D.C., Leigh’s early years hinted at the cosmopolitan life that awaited her. However, it was the addition of the surname Young, from her stepfather Donald E. Young, a Detroit executive, that became a significant part of her identity.

Growing up in Oakland County, Michigan, alongside her younger siblings, actress/sculptor Dey Young and writer/director/producer Lance Young, Leigh’s upbringing was infused with creativity and diversity. Her decision to adopt her stepfather’s surname reflects the importance of family bonds and the impact of those who play pivotal roles in shaping one’s identity.

Leigh Taylor-Young’s educational journey took her to Groves High School in Beverly Hills, Michigan, where she graduated in 1962. Following high school, she briefly attended Northwestern University as an economics major. However, her passion for acting took precedence, and she made her professional debut on Broadway in “3 Bags Full.”
