Ty Law’s parents, Larry and Diane, provided the foundation for his remarkable life. Diane, Ty Law’s mother, demonstrated incredible resilience, giving birth to Ty at the young age of sixteen. Their family roots run deep in Aliquippa, a city that played a significant role in shaping the trajectory of Ty Law’s life.
In his Pro Football Hall of Fame enshrinement speech in the summer of 2019, Ty Law paid heartfelt tribute to his grandfather, affectionately known as “Pap,” who took on the responsibility of raising him in a challenging environment – a seedy, drug-, and gang-infested part of Aliquippa. “Pap,” a dedicated steel mill worker in Western Pennsylvania, became a pillar of support for Ty Law.

Ty Law’s grandmother, lovingly referred to as “Nanna,” passed away when he was just twelve years old, leaving “Pap” to shoulder the majority of the parenting duties. From attending Ty Law’s football practices since the age of seven through his high school days, “Pap” played an instrumental role in nurturing Ty’s passion for the sport.
In a touching revelation, Ty Law shared that “Pap” went to great lengths to support his grandson’s dreams. Discovering that “Pap” took a substantial $5,000 mortgage from their house payment to purchase a Chrysler LaBaron for Ty highlighted the depth of sacrifice and commitment. Unfortunately, this act of love led “Pap” to fall behind on house payments, eventually filing for bankruptcy.
As Ty Law stood enshrined in Canton in 2019, he expressed profound gratitude, acknowledging the immeasurable sacrifices made by “Pap.” “I could never repay him for that,” Ty Law remarked, recognizing the selflessness that shaped his journey.
