Mitchell Stephens, the talented Canadian professional ice hockey centre currently making waves with the Montreal Canadiens in the National Hockey League (NHL), comes from a supportive and proud family.

Born on February 5, 1997, in Peterborough, Ontario, Mitchell is the son of Lee and Heather Stephens. Growing up in the vibrant hockey culture of Peterborough, Mitchell Stephens was immersed in the sport from a young age.

His early hockey journey saw him as a standout player in the Peterborough Minor Hockey Council’s AAA Petes program. This early exposure laid the foundation for the skills and passion that would propel him to the professional ranks.

Mitchell’s family ties also extend to the NHL, as he shares a familial connection with Owen Tippett, who plays for the Philadelphia Flyers.  Before making his mark in the NHL, Mitchell Stephens honed his skills with the Toronto Marlboros of the Greater Toronto Hockey League.

In 2015, Mitchell Stephens’ hockey prowess caught the attention of the Tampa Bay Lightning, who selected him in the second round (33rd overall) of the NHL Entry Draft. This marked a significant moment in his career, opening the door to the professional league where he would go on to achieve remarkable success.

Notably, Stephens was part of the Tampa Bay Lightning’s historic back-to-back Stanley Cup victories in 2020 and 2021. His contributions to the team’s triumphs underscored not only his individual talent but also the support and guidance provided by his family throughout his journey in the world of hockey.
