Former Southampton boss Nigel Adkins says leaving the club in 2013 came as “a big shock.” The former Wigan Athletic goalkeeper joined Saints in 2010 before guiding them to back-to-back promotions, which culminated in a place in the Premier League in 2012/13.
Adkins is highly regarded by Southampton fans, and his tenure is seen as among the finest in the club’s recent history. His abrupt departure from St. Mary’s still rankles with some fans, though, and the boss has admitted his exit in January 2013 came out of the blue.
