Born on April 15, 1943, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Sticky Vicky’s journey in the spotlight began when she moved to Barcelona with her mother after her father’s departure from the family. She immersed herself in classical ballet for 15 years, eventually becoming a dancer. Her unique talents, combined with her sister’s contortionist skills, led her to perform in a musical dance show. It was during this time that she was given the stage name Vicky Leyton, a name that would define her career.

Sticky Vicky’s rise to fame occurred in the backdrop of a changing cultural landscape in Spain. After the death of Francisco Franco and the relaxation of sexual censorship, she faced challenges in her career as the public demanded more explicit shows. In a twist of fate, a magician suggested a new act where she would perform magic by removing various objects from her vagina. Thus began Sticky Vicky’s iconic magic show, which featured acts ranging from handkerchiefs to razor blades.

Her performances, characterized by a blend of dance and illusion, gained immense popularity. The lights would dim as she pulled out a lit lightbulb, and she concluded her act by opening a bottle of beer with her vagina, pouring it onto the stage. Despite the explicit nature of her performances, Sticky Vicky insisted that her act possessed a touch of elegance and delicacy.

Over the course of her career, Sticky Vicky performed multiple times each night, six nights a week. Her act captivated audiences, and by 2007, it had been witnessed by more than six million tourists and countless others. She became a living legend in Benidorm, especially among British tourists and Icelandic students.

In 2001, Sticky Vicky faced a legal battle over her stage name with another performer, María Rosa Pereira, known as “Sexy Bárbara.” Although she won the initial case, the ruling was overturned on appeal. Eventually, in 2009, the court recognized Vicky’s legal trademark for her stage name.

After her last performance in the autumn of 2015, Sticky Vicky faced health challenges. In February 2016, she was diagnosed with uterine cancer, leading to her retirement at the age of 72. Her legacy, however, continued through her daughter, María Gadea Aragüés, who followed in her mother’s footsteps.

Sticky Vicky’s life was not without personal challenges and controversies. Reports suggest a son named Eduardo Romero Aragüés, who preferred to stay away from the spotlight. Despite the controversies, Sticky Vicky’s impact on the entertainment industry was undeniable, and she remained a Benidorm legend until her passing.

On July 29, 2023, Sticky Vicky was hospitalized after a fall that injured both of her knees. Despite undergoing surgery, complications arose, leading to her return to the hospital. Tragically, on November 29, 2023, María Gadea Aragüés confirmed her mother’s passing, leaving behind a legacy that transcends the boundaries of conventional entertainment.

Sticky Vicky’s life and career were a testament to the evolving nature of the entertainment industry and the resilience of performers who dared to be different. As we remember her, let us celebrate the uniqueness she brought to the stage and the indelible mark she left on the hearts of those who witnessed her extraordinary performances.
