Esi Edugyan stands as a prominent figure in the literary landscape, currently ranked amongst the most celebrated authors of our time.

At the age of 24, Edugyan introduced herself to the literary scene with her debut novel, “The Second Life of Samuel Tyne,” a work that showcased her early prowess as a storyteller.

The novel not only marked the beginning of her literary journey but also earned her a spot on the shortlist for the Hurston-Wright Legacy Award in 2005.

The novel’s excellence was reflected in its multiple award nominations, including being shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize, Scotiabank Giller Prize, Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize, and Governor General’s Award for English-language fiction.

The pinnacle of recognition came with the Giller Prize, bestowed upon her not once but twice – first for “Half-Blood Blues” in 2011 and later for “Washington Black” in 2018.

In September 2018, Edugyan unveiled her third novel, “Washington Black,” a literary triumph that continued her winning streak by securing another Giller Prize in November 2018.

Beyond her individual achievements, Edugyan’s voice is part of the chorus in Margaret Busby’s 2019 anthology, “New Daughters of Africa.”
