Derek Chauvin is a former Minneapolis police officer, who gained notoriety for the murder of George Floyd in 2020.
Serving in the Minneapolis Police Department from 2001 to 2020, Chauvin’s troubled career included 18 official complaints and involvement in three police shootings, one fatal.

His actions reached a tragic climax on May 25, 2020, when he knelt on Floyd’s neck for nine minutes, sparking global outrage and protests.
Dismissed from the MPD on May 26, Chauvin faced trial in early 2021, resulting in convictions for second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter.
Sentenced to 22 and a half years in prison on June 25, 2021, he was later transferred to FCI Tucson in Arizona.
On November 24, 2023, Chauvin was stabbed by another inmate at the facility, adding a new chapter to this high-profile case.
